episodes 1 + 2

ok I got kinda bogged down catching up on my higurashi blogging but Maria and I watched the first two episodes of this last week(?) and are going to watch the third tonight so wanted to memorialize some thoughts/initial impressions!
overall im really really invested in the show already and really excited about where itβs going. i loved these episodes. seeing the infection or whatever spread was so gross and weird. awesome. also really fun to watch the scenes where the hivemind is like, doing things where multiple bodies are cooperating and not speaking to eachother.
anyway so excited for another vince gilligan show and so happy about the lead being rhea seehorn - she was incredible in better call saul (kim is one of my fav female characters of all time for real). i am like still kinda stunned that rheaβs character in this was immediately confirmed gay and that her relationship with her late partner is like. her main motivating force. does VG know?? does he actually know that us lesbians love his work?? anyway i wasnβt expecting that but. so fucking awesome. yay!!

^ also how i feel as a lesbian at a family dinner - imagine: what if you were the only normal person and everybody else had been colonized by a brainwashing alien force called Society
really obsessed with the hivemind bringing raban, still, though. literally βplease listen to me look itβs me your gay pirate OC sexy ladyβ. also haunted by the implication that this means the hivemind does/did have access to carolβs girlfriendβs brain before her death? or that she got βuploadedβ before her body died and sheβs still alive? im holding out for some extremely toxic yuri, folks

have no real expectations for where the story will go from here and love that itβs already very weird. big fan of hivemind trope and the general sort of βno really, what would happen ifβ quality to gilliganβs plot-writing is well suited for a more fantasy/scifi/surreal setting I think. so far the vibes are kinda reminding me of the good place but im hopeful that things will escalate to get darker and grittier in true gilligan fashion.
central mystery right now to me seems to be why the aliens (seem to) need to assimilate carol/all of humanity here. she keeps killing millions by getting upset and yelling or whatever but theyβre keeping her alive and highly surveilled so i feel pretty confident they need her. thatβs as deep as my theory goes right now though haha.
