the sopranos
season 3, episode 6: βuniversityβ

this was a deeply unpleasant episode to watch but not necessarily a bad episode. we have definitely ramped up the violence against women (on camera) this season - i think this feels appropriate though as we continue to dig into the questions of like, βis tony soprano a good man?β and βcan he be?β but there are also some elements here that feel a little gratuitous (see: the dr. melfi episode).

- ralphie is deeply despicable but he is a compelling antagonist for me. what is his deal man. very funny that everybody just like openly hates being around him at parties or whatever. also funny that heβs the abusive boyfriend from Bound (1996). like thatβs just the same fucking character lmao. good for him though

parallel between meadow and tracee was being drawn here with their ages so close and with both of them like getting dental work doneβ¦ but i donβt know what it is if itβs anything beyond βsome girls are poor and become dead strippers, other girls are rich and go to collegeβ. maybe the parallel exists just to sort of underline the impact of traceeβs death on tony (because sheβs βlike meadowβ)
something very weird is happening in meadows storyline and i really really want to know what it is. i went to college like 10 years after meadow but itβs funny how timeless the situation with her roommate is. college is for crashing out!
